The old Engine Shed - ready for conversion to a Heritage Centre
As a condition of its lease from Wrexham Council, the Group is undertaking some initial remedial works to the Shed building itself.   The first tranche of these works was successfully completed at the end of March 2008, using volunteers, and were signed-off by Wrexham Council in April.    Work has now started on the next phase, which will include digging out the north side of the Shed and installing new drainage, together with restoration of the original Victorian metal windows. An attractive new sign - indicating the future of the site - has also been installed.
From a state of abject dereliction, Group volunteers have given the old Tramway shed and yard site an initial facelift.   The site has been cleared of rubble and debris, a derelict portacabin has been removed, new security measures have been installed, repairs have been carried out to the fences, and bushes obscuring the building from the road have been cut down.
The Group has commissioned ISP Architects of Wrexham to undertake a survey of the Shed Buildings and to prepare formal drawings and costings for the new Heritage Centre - as an input to applications for grant funding that will be made during 2009.   Development work is also being taken forward on the internal layout of the new Heritage Centre and on the displays which are planned.
